Reflect the True Light

Dear Church Family,

Exodus 34 explains the shining face of Moses. Imagine the sight of Moses as he came down from Mount Sinai with his face glowing!

 Moses’ face was shining because he had been meeting with the Lord on the mountain. He shined because God’s glory illuminated him. Just being in God’s presence made him radiate. It reminds me of the difference between the sun and the moon. Both shine, but only the Sun is it’s own light source. The moon shines because it receives and redirects the light from the Sun. Moses was not his own light source. His glow was a result of spending time with the Lord.

Jesus, in Matthew 5:14, calls us the light of the world and Paul reminds us in Phil. 2:15 that we shine as lights in the world. Just like the moon, we are not the light source, but reflect the light of the true light of the world, Jesus Christ. I remember, as a kid, receiving a glow in the dark shirt. The shirt would glow in the dark, but only for a little while. To “recharge” the shirt, you had to bring it back into the light. In the same way, we recharge when we spend time with the Lord, just as Moses did on the mountain and in the tent of meeting, where he would talk to God, “as a man speaks to his friend.” (Ex. 33:11).
