Dear Church Family,

I’ve been reading through the book of Exodus and I’m on the section that deals with the tabernacle, the priests, and the ceremonial regulations. I’m always stuck when I study through sections like these on the importance of holiness and complete obedience when following the Lord’s instructions. God is very specific instructions for the people, specifically the priest. In Exodus 28, the priest is given specific instructions for his holy garments when he goes before the Lord, including bells on his robe that can be heard while he’s ministering in the holy place. Verse 35 describes the consequences of failing to fully obey:

Exodus 28:35
And it shall be on Aaron when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes into the Holy Place before the Lord, and when he comes out, so that he does not die.

I am thankful for the incredible grace and mercy that allows me to boldly approach the throne of grace. Reading passages like this one also reminds me the great cost that Jesus paid to bring us that access. God is holy and it is only through the holiness that Jesus Himself gives us that we can have access to God Himself:

Hebrews 4:16 (ESV)
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
