Dear Church Family,

Are you a student? You might or might not be going to school right now, but we can all be students of the Word. Each of us could spend our entire lives as students of the Bible and still just scratch the service of everything God wants to teach us through His Word. I was reading in Acts 18 today about the spread of the Gospel in Corinth and Ephesus. At the end of the chapter, it describes a Jew named Apollos, who came to Ephesus to spread the Word. Look at how it describes him:

Acts 18:25 (ESV)
He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John.

He was very knowledgeable and passionate, and even taught accurately the things that he knew. Even though he spoke and taught accurately, there was still some room for growth. That’s when Priscilla and Aquilla were able to take him aside and help him grow in his knowledge of the truth. This made me think, “what keeps us from growing in our knowledge of the truth?” Often, our pride causes us to think we already know enough (or everything). We also don’t like to be corrected or have someone else think they’re smarter than us. I love Apollos’ humility in allowing others to speak into his life and help him grow as a student of the Word.

Acts 18:26 (ESV)
He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

They didn’t make a big deal about it, and he humbly received their instruction. Because he was able to humble himself, he was able to continue to grow and God blessed this growth. Look at the result:

Acts 18:27-28 (ESV)
And when he wished to cross to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, he greatly helped those who through grace had believed, 28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures that the Christ was Jesus.

Are you still learning new things from God’s Word? Are you able to hear from others? May we all be lifelong learners of the Bible! More importantly, may we all know Him more the more we learn!

What’s Happening at Gospel Life:

Read the Bible in a Year: Every year I present the challenge to the church of reading through the Bible in a year. The goal is knowing God more through His Word, not simply checking something off our list. If you are looking for a reading plan, you can find one here:
https://biblereadingplangenerator.com/

Youth Group: Join us this Sunday, January 12th, from 5-7 pm at the Bronleewes’ house. We’ll have dinner, games, worship, and continue our new study, “Treasure Hunt.”

Communion: We will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper as part of our Sunday morning service on Sunday, January 26th. Through the ordinance of communion, we remember the sacrifice Jesus made to save us from our sins.

Donation Reports for 2024: We are so incredibly grateful for how God has provided for the needs of the church this past year. We will soon be sending out donation reports over email. If you have any questions or need a physical copy, please contact Neil Ault. You can also find your donation history on the church center app or website:

Life Groups: If you’re interested in joining a life group, we have several to choose from. You can check them out here:

This Coming Sunday:
The Need for Qualified Leaders (Part 4) – This Sunday we’ll continue to our series through the book of 1 Timothy, titled “Foundations for the Household of God.” We’ll continue to look at 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and examine what God is looking for in church leaders.
