Dear Church Family,

How are you at waiting? It’s tough to wait patiently when you see something that needs to be fixed. There are definitely some things that we just need to go fix. I have a clogged drain that I have been waiting to get unclogged, but I know the answer: I need to go unclog that drain myself. Other things, though, are things that only God can fix. It’s difficult to wait patiently for guidance and direction, softened hearts for broken relationships, unfulfilled dreams, immovable obstacles, and the list goes on. In Psalm 62 David faces enemies and obstacles. In light of these, I love his commitment:

Psalm 62:1-2 (ESV)
For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

David knows that God is the only one with the solution to his problem, so he resolves to wait patiently for God to work. In fact, he doubles down on that stance in verse 5. Is there a need that you’ve been waiting for God alone for an answer? I love David’s picture of God as his rock. You have a rock that you can trust while you wait. On this rock you won’t be shaken.
It’s so tempting, during the waiting, to turn to other solutions or try to find some shortcut. Have you turned to anything or anyone else for something only God can provide? David refuses to be shaken from God, his rock, while he waits in silence. He points out:

Psalm 62:10 (ESV)
Put no trust in extortion;
set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

God is your rock, fortress, and refuge. You can use this time of waiting as an opportunity to connect with Him in prayer.

Psalm 62:8 (ESV)
Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah
