Dear Church Family,

Have you ever felt all alone? Maybe you’ve really been alone somewhere, like the woods. Maybe you’ve just felt that way because you’ve carried a burden no one else knew about, or you felt unseen or uncared about. It’s both lonely and frightening to feel all alone. Today, I thought about that as I read through Acts 23. In this chapter, Paul is on trial by the Jews with no one else there to support him. All alone, he faces the attacks and lies of the religious leaders. It gets so bad that the Roman tribune is afraid they are going to kill Paul.

Acts 23:10 (ESV)
And when the dissension became violent, the tribune, afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him away from among them by force and bring him into the barracks.

Imagine facing that, and then, after being taken to the barracks, receiving this news:

Acts 23:12-13 (ESV)
When it was day, the Jews made a plot and bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. 13 There were more than forty who made this conspiracy.

Right in the middle of these threats, though, comes an amazing verse.

Acts 23:11 (ESV)
The following night the Lord stood by him and said, “Take courage, for as you have testified to the facts about me in Jerusalem, so you must testify also in Rome.”

The Lord shows up to remind Paul that he is not alone. He is both with him and has plans for him, that no one else can prevent. The Lord showed up and stood by him. Sometimes when I feel all alone, I just need someone to stand by me. Just like with Paul, God promises to be with you. Even when you are all alone, He is still with you. He still has plans for you and He is greater than anything in front of you. What are you facing today? In what ways do you feel alone and need support? Remember, you are not alone!

Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
