Dear Church Family,I finished reading through the Psalms this morning. The last three Psalms really emphasize our calling to worship God with all of our being. Psalm 148 lists out all the parts of creation called to praise the Lord. The psalmist lists the angels, hosts, moon, shining stars, heavens, waters, sea creatures, all deeps, fire, hail, snow, mist, stormy wind, mountains, hills, fruit trees, cedars, livestock, creeping things, flying birds, kings, all peoples, princes, rulers, young men, maidens, old men, and children. This huge lists emphasizes that all things and all people have reason to praise the Lord. If you’re part of creation, you’re included! Next, in Psalm 149, we’re called to sing a new song to the Lord. Just as we had reason to praise God in the past, God is still at work in our lives and we have new reason and new ways to praise Him. How is God working right now in your life? What reason do you have today to praise His name? “Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly!” (Psalm 149:1 ESV) Finally, in Psalm 150, everything that has breath is called to praise the Lord. The psalmist lists out many different ways that we can praise Him. Psalm 150:3-6 (ESV) Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! 4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! 5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Now, you might not be a skilled musician. You might not have any of those instruments or be able to play an instrument at all. You might not be a skilled dancer or even be able to keep a beat. What do you have, though? What are some specific ways God has gifted you that you can turn around and use these gifts to praise the Lord? Colossians 3:17 (ESV) And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV) So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
