Dear Church Family, We’re on a rescue mission! Do you know what the mission is? Jesus gave it to us before He left. Matthew 28:19-20 (ESV)
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
There are two important stages to this mission. The first is leading people to Christ. God’s heart is for the whole world and so this mission extends to the whole world. We are given this ministry of reconciliation, leading people who are separated from God into a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. The second stage in the mission is to lead them to maturity. The mission doesn’t end when someone enters into a relationship with Christ. That’s just the beginning. This is a great reminder for us as disciple-makers. We can’t lead others to maturity if we’re not growing towards it ourselves. I love Paul’s heart: Colossians 1:28-29 (ESV)
Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
As I was reading through Proverbs 24 this morning I came to this verse: Proverbs 24:11 (ESV)
Rescue those who are being taken away to death;
hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.
Just like we would rescue someone facing physical death, we are to share the Good News with those who are facing eternal death. How can you be part of God’s great rescue mission? Jude 23 (ESV)
save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.
What’s Happening at Gospel Life:Youth Group: Join us for youth group this Sunday, November 19th from 5-7 pm. We’ll have dinner, games, worship, and continue our Bible study through the Book of Joshua. Note: We will not have Youth Group on Sunday, November 26th.Communion: We will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper as part of our Sunday morning service on Sunday, November 26th. Through the ordinance of communion, we remember the sacrifice Jesus made to save us from our sins. Men’s Ministry Vision Building Event: Guys, we would love your input as we seek God’s guidance on how He wants the men’s ministry to take shape. Join us on Saturday, December 2nd from 8-10 am at The Greens Clubhouse as we develop a men’s ministry vision statement. Doughnuts and coffee will be provided. We will have a special celebration dinner for anyone who reads through the whole Bible. The point is to grow in your relationship with God, so whether you read through the whole Bible or just a portion, seek to know Him more!
