Dear Church Family,

No one wants to be called a fool or a scoundrel. We would much rather be called honorable or noble. In Isaiah 32 God contrasts the fool and scoundrel with the noble person. As I read through the passage I was fascinated by the description of the noble person. Often the best way to avoid something negative is to strive for something positive. How can we seek to be noble people?

Isaiah 32:8 (ESV)
But he who is noble plans noble things, and on noble things he stands.

The person of noble character is marked by what he stands on and what he plans. It’s both the things that he stands on as he makes decisions in life and the things he dreams about as he plans for the future.
What about you? What do you stand on when you’re making tough decisions? Do you take shortcuts or bend the rules, or are you committed to standing on noble things? The things we stand on end up shaping us and forming our character. We shouldn’t be surprised that we end up becoming dishonorable if we’ve stood on dishonor in the decisions we make. If you want to be noble, stand on noble things.
What about your plans and dreams? The things you focus on and strive toward? Are they honorable dreams or questionable ones? Just as the things we stand on end up shaping us, the things we strive towards also shape us. We shouldn’t be surprised if we end up as fools if we’ve been striving after foolish things. If you want to be noble, plan noble things.
