Dear Church Family,

If you’ve ever been locked out of the house, you know the importance of having the right key. What would you say the key is to salvation? As I was reading through Romans chapter four this week, one word kept coming up; 11 times, in fact. In this chapter Paul explains how God makes sinners righteous in His eyes. Paul explains that faith is the “key” to salvation. Jesus’ death on the cross is what saves us from our sins, but faith is how we access that gift of grace. Paul starts the next chapter with this conclusion:

Romans 5:1-2 (ESV)
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Faith gives us peace with God and access to Him. It is when we trust what Jesus has done, not our own goodness or worthiness. That’s good news, because sometimes I don’t feel very worthy of God’s love or righteous on my own. Since our faith is in what Jesus has done, not what we have done, are doing, or will ever do, our faith is secure. It’s such a good feeling to have the keys to your house in your pocket, because you know, with those you can get in. When you’re feeling down, remember that what Jesus did for you hasn’t changed. Because of what He has done, you have the “key” to peace with God and access to Him no matter what!
