Dear Church Family, I was reading Ezekiel 24 this week and came to the section where God tells Ezekiel that his wife is going to die. I can’t imagine such a difficult word from the Lord. Beyond that, though, God also instructs him not to publicly mourn for her loss.
God explained that her death would illustrate to the people that, just as Ezekiel lost the delight of his eyes, so would the exiles. They would lose the temple and the people of Jerusalem. Ezekiel faithfully obeyed the Lord, even though it must have been incredibly difficult. It reminded me that sometimes it is incredibly difficult and painful to follow the Lord. Even when we are in God’s will there will be loss and pain. Because Ezekiel was faithful even in this moment, God was able to use him as a powerful sign to the people.
His obedience became a sign to them and allowed them to know that it was the Lord God Who had given them that sign. May we be faithful both in the painless tasks and the painful ones, being signs to others that they may come to know the Lord God. –David Bronleewe What’s Happening at Gospel Life:Elder Training: The next monthly Bible Study will be on on Tuesday, October 25th at 7 pm at the Bronleewes’ house.
